Plaquemine’s Le Krewe du Roi brought the renowned nightclub Studio 54 back to life to celebrate their 52nd annual Mardi Gras ball Feb. 6 in the Carl F. Grant Civic Center.

Reigning over the evening were King Roi LII Vince Puhl and Queen Roi LII Emily Iledah Aucoin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Timmy Aucoin and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Burns and Marquerite Aucoin and the late Carol Aucoin. Her mother, Suzanne Burns Aucoin, reigned as Queen XXV in 1989.

The royal couple’s floats, his with a 12-foot illuminated No. 5 and hers with a matching No. 4, joined to form the number 54. The king and queen, along with the numbers, rose off the floats and were suspended in mid-air while the entire court danced The Hustle in a tribute to them.

The king was accompanied by Alex and Harvin Landry, sons of Jeanné Burns and Chad Landry; and Henry Weaver, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jamie Tallman and Mr. and Mrs. Jeremy Weaver.

Accompanying the queen were Lilla Aucoin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Timmy Aucoin; Gabrielle Wilbert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Wilbert; Anna Catherine Bradford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bradford; Olivia Weaver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jamie Tallman and Mr. and Mrs. Jeremy Weaver; and Harper Malbrough, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Malbrough.

Master of ceremonies John Morgan opened the tableau with the National Anthem honoring war veterans and a special tribute to deceased krewe members from the past year. The 2015 Royal Court was presented and this year’s ball captains, the krewe’s board of directors, were introduced.

King Roi’s VIP guest couples arrived to celebrate the reopening of Studio 54. Shannon Joseph LeBlanc escorted Lessie Nicole Son, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Son and Stacy Orillion and niece of Mr. and Mrs. Ryan Courtade.

Avery Waine Vince escorted Taylor Lynn Vince, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Vince and niece of Mr. and Mrs. Avery Vince.

Jackson Kelly Morgan, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Morgan, escorted Kieley Danielle Stroupe, grandniece of Mr. and Mrs. John Morgan.

Brad Michael Gulotta, son of Mary Sue Gulotta and the late Tony Gulotta, escorted Kyndal Leigh Guillory, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vadnais III and Mr. and Mrs. Toby Guillory, granddaughter of Lydia Vadnais and the late Henry Vadnais Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Bourgeois.

Jody Allen Spillman escorted Alexandria Grace “Gracie” André, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Rickey André, goddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Huey “Tugar” Martinez.

Bart Joseph Himel escorted Katlyn Marie McGraw, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bart Himel.

Entertainment was provided by dancers Joshlyn Allen, Jade Babin, Ariel Brumfield, Angelique Jack, Brooke Himel, Jackie Migliacio, Rachel Migliacio and Chassity Washington.

The introduction of the royal couple was the finale of the tableau. Dancing continued into the evening with music provided by DJ Henry.
