La. Culinary Insitute sets cooking classes
Favorite Louisiana foods, fish and Cajun comfort foods are among the leisure cooking classes scheduled at Louisiana Culinary Institute, 10550 Airline Highway, Baton Rouge, in September and October.
The classes will be taught by chef Colt Patin.

Farmers market slated Saturday at Alexander’s
A pop-up farmers market will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in front of Alexander’s Highland Market, 18111 Highland Market Drive.
Among the vendors will be AmazinGraze Creamery; Luckett Farms; 2 Sisters’ Salsa, of Plaucheville; Sweet Elizabeth Cakes, of St. Amant; and Moms Garden, of Livingston.
Also at the market, cookbook author and blogger Holly Clegg will sign copies of her cookbooks from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Competitors sought for all-beef cook-off
Beefstock, an all-beef cook-off slated at the Tin Roof Brewery in Baton Rouge on Nov. 1-2, is seeking teams to compete.
The event will include the categories of brisket, burgers, beef ribs, homemade beef stock and Where’s the beef?, an any-cut-of-beef wildcard entry.
Jay Ducote and the Bite and Booze team, in conjunction with Jay D’s Louisiana Barbecue Sauce and the Tin Roof Brewery, are launching the new event, which will include the Beefstock Soirée on Nov. 1 for sponsors and teams.
The main event on Nov. 2 will be “for the public to celebrate local craft beer, enjoy the tunes of local bands Orphan Annie and The Anteeks, and eat delicious beef from the participating cooking teams,” a news release said.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Louisiana Culinary Institute Foundation, which provides scholarship grants and other financial awards or assistance to deserving students attending the school as well as provisions for those in need throughout the community.
