LSU Retirees hears Angola asst. warden
Cathy Fontenot, assistant warden at Louisiana State Penitentiary, spoke to the LSU Faculty and Staff Retirees Club on April 8.
Fontenot is a 21-year veteran in corrections at the maximum security prison that houses 6,200 inmates, 97 percent of whom have life sentences. Fontenot discussed prison life for her and the inmates, along with her experiences as a mother of three.
At the business meeting, President Shirley Mundt turned over the gavel to newly elected President Terril Faul. Serving with him will be Vice President Ken Paxton, Treasurer Eddie Bosworth, Recording Secretary Lorry Trotter, Parliamentarian Denver Loupe and Historian Tom Burch. Winifred Severance, Barbara Brown, Loupe and Joan Benedict provided refreshments.
Christian comedian featured at lunch
The Rev. Constance Saizon, a Christian comedian, was the featured speaker at the Laugh Out Loud Luncheon held by the Baton Rouge Christian Women’s Connection on April 9 at Oak Lodge Reception and Conference Center.
Mimi Crabtree was the guest musician. Lafayette realtor Sharon Steen spoke about staging a house to make a great first impression.
The group’s summer musical will be July 9 featuring Addison Hollis, Mackenzie Hollis and Michele Holland. Humorous speaker Linda Jacobson, of Fort Worth, Texas, will speak on “Angels’ Wings Don’t Flap.” The cost is $22. Email reservations to firstname.lastname@example.org or call (225) 362-3588.
