Baton Rouge UCT installs slate of officers

Baton Rouge Council 499 of United Commercial Travelers of America installed 2015-16 officers April 14 at the UCT Hall.

International Past President Randy Young installed President Janell Gautreaux; Vice President Martha Desselles; Past President Larry Musso; Directors Page Meyer, Charles McLaughlin and Joella Daigle; Executive Committee members Patricia Gowdy, Richard Desselles, Richard Redman and Verlyne Leblanc; Chaplain Leigh Redman; and Secretary-Treasurer Young.

Preceptor Beta Epsilon hears about Maine inn

President Sandy Linder gave a program about the Seaside Inn when Preceptor Beta Epsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met April 3 at Linder’s home.

The inn in Maine is at the mouth of the Kennebunk River and has been owned by the same family since the 1600s. The chapter spent a long weekend there in October.

Linder announced new committees for the year and reminded members of the Founders Day Banquet on April 23 at Ashley Manor and the Spring Tea May 2 at Linda Smith’s home.

Thompson-Givens receives LAE award

East Baton Rouge Parish instructional specialist Katina Thompson-Givens received the Louisiana Association of Educators’ 2015 Ancillary Image Award April 11 at the annual LAE Representative Assembly.

Thompson-Givens is a positive behavioral intervention and supports facilitator, data specialist, mentor and spirit team advisor at EBR Readiness Superintendent’s Academy in Baton Rouge. She works with teachers on technology implementation, teaching strategies, classroom management, lesson plans and assessments.

LAE President Debbie Meaux said Thompson-Givens also provides private English and geometry tutoring.

Honore promoted to Guard lieutenant

Steven B. Honore has been promoted to the rank of second lieutenant in the U.S. Army National Guard. Honore is a platoon leader with B Company, 3rd Battalion, 156th Infantry Regiment, Baton Rouge. He has served in the military for one year. He is a 2008 graduate of Woodward Academy, College Park, Georgia, and earned an bachelor’s degree in 2015 from LSU.

Johnson completes Air Force Basic Training

Air Force Airman Sharday Johnson graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. Johnson is the daughter of Patrick Calais, of Carencro; Johnson Rodney, of Tunica, Mississippi; and Johnson Terry, of Southaven, Mississippi. She is the granddaughter of Mary Calais, of Cecilia; and niece of Erica Calais of Baton Rouge. She graduated in 2010 from Horn Lake (Mississippi) High School.

Herron graduates from Air Force basic training

Air Force Airman Denzel C. Herron graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. Herron is the son of Derieo M. Herron, of Dover, Delaware; Leslie J. Herron, of Baton Rouge; and Donald C. Herron Sr., of Baton Rouge. He is a 2012 graduate of Broadmoor High School.

Glen Oaks Class of ’65 sets 50-year reunion

The Glen Oaks High School Class of 1965 will hold a reunion from 6-10 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at Kristenwood Catering and Reception Hall, 14025 Greenwell Springs Road.
