A popular restaurant app is teaming with a nearby craft brewery to deliver a new beer to the south Louisiana market.
Limited distribution of the beer begins Friday, Oct. 20, in restaurants in Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Lake Charles. Participating Baton Rouge restaurants include The Chimes near LSU, Sammy's in Prairieville, Walk-On's on Burbank Drive, Red Zeppelin Pizza, The Londoner and The Overpass Merchant.
A Nice Pear is a Saison brewed with organic pear juice and fermented with Northern French Saison yeast, then dry-hopped with Bramling Cross hops for additional orchard-fruit notes.
Both Waitr and Crying Eagle were founded in Lake Charles. The idea for A Nice Pear took shape as Crying Eagle president Eric Avery and Waitr founder/CEO Chris Meaux met at an event. After meeting, the two businessmen agreed that the beer would present a good opportunity, according to a press release.
"Rarely, if ever, has a brewery collaborated with a technology company to create a unique style for the market," Avery said in the release.
Meaux said the partnership is "an example of creativity helping our local restaurant industry."
Waitr launched in 2015 as an on-demand restaurant platform, allowing Louisiana residents to order food by pick-up or delivery from local restaurants. The app is available on iPhone and Android devices. To date, Waitr has more than 2,500 restaurant partners and hundreds of thousands of users in more than 100 cities.
Crying Eagle started last year and has quickly become a hub for Lake Charles with its on site taproom and beer garden. The brewery has distributed beers such as Ready to Mingle, Louisiana Lager, and Pistol Bridge Porter. Up next, Crying Eagle will launch Hop Blooded IPA.
