Louisiana singer competes for ‘Voice’ title; winner to be announced Tuesday night _lowres

Damien Lawson, of Monroe, may be the next “Voice.”

Lawson will sing up against his fellow three finalists on NBC’s reality musical competition series “The Voice” from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday. The winner will be announced during Tuesday night’s 8 p.m to 10 p.m. finale. Lawson is part of “The Voice’s” Team Adam (singer Levine).

Lawson says he has been singing “his whole life,” first in his father’s church and later in college, where he studied opera. He moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in R&B music, but currently works for the TSA at the Los Angeles International Airport.

“One Team One Dream #TeamDamien www.DamienLawson.com” reads a T-shirt for sale on Lawson’s website. The site also explains the several ways fans can vote for Lawson to win the competition, from calling, to texting, to downloading one of his singles on iTunes.

The other three singers remaining in the contest are Chris Jamison, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Matt McAndrew, Barnegat Light, New Jersey, both also?Team Adam; and Craig Wayne Boyd, Nashville, Tennessee, Team Blake (singer Shelton). All of singers Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams’ team members were eliminated in previous weeks of the competition.

Celebrity performers on Tuesday night’s finale show will include Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Jennifer Hudson, Hozier and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

“The Voice” can be seen on WVLA, Channel 33 (cable Channel 3 in Baton Rouge and Lafayette), KPLC, Channel 7 (cable Channel 7 in Lafayette) and WDSU, Channel 6 (cable Channel 7 in New Orleans).
