For three days, May 24-26, more than 30 artists will paint in BREC's Botanical Gardens on Independence Boulevard.
The en plein air event is a fundraiser for the Baton Rouge Botanic Garden Foundation, which helps maintain, design and promote the individual gardens in the 15-acre park, which BREC recently gave an $800,000 makeover.
Each artist will create one to three works, all of which will be for sale at a reception and exhibit from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at the Garden Promenade and Iris Pavilion in the Botanical Gardens. In case of rain, the reception will be held at the East Baton Rouge Parish Main Library, 7711 Goodwood Blvd., which is near the garden.
“We have artists from Baton Rouge, Franklinton, Central, Prairieville, Clinton, Hammond and Gonzales,” said Mary Tharp, event organizer. “There are so many beautiful sites in the gardens that the artists can depict in this beautiful Baton Rouge park."
Visitors are invited to see the artists at work, but interaction while they are painting is not encouraged.
“Let them do what they are there to do,” Tharp said, “and later you can buy one of your favorites.”
