Southern University's theater program will be performing a double bill of plays in the theater in Frank Hayden Hall.
The plays, Ben Caldwell's "Prayer Meeting: or the First Militant Minster" and Endesha Ida Mae Holland's "From the Mississippi Delta," will open at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3-4 and Nov. 10-11. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Caldwell's one-act play uses African-American religious practices and folk tradition as a form of resistance. Holland's play is about triumph in transformation, following her life through rape, prostitution, poverty and her mother's murder, then emerging as proof that some spirits cannot be broken.
Admission is free but donations are accepted. There will be a discussion immediately following each performance. For more information, call (225) 771-4500.
