Quintessential Harp, the professional harp duo of Catherine Anderson and Rebecca Todaro, founder of the Harp Program at Runnels School, is offering a master class for harpists at 4 p.m. followed by a benefit concert at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Bethany South Campus, 11107 Honore Lane.

Donations collected at the concert will be donated to the Runnels Disaster Relief Fund to help the school rebuild from the flood.

Quintessential Harp is a collaborative effort of Anderson, a faculty member at Tulane University and New Orleans Center of Creative Arts, and Todaro, who most recently taught at LSU and Runnels School.

The duo has performed in the Trinity Artist Series, Bach Around the Clock, The Deutsches Haus Recital Series, Tulane University Faculty Concerts, Poydras Home, Lambeth House, Baton Rouge General Artists in Medicine Concert Series and for audiences throughout South Louisiana.

The concert program on Oct. 21 will include works by Lizotte, Zamara, Poenitz, Andres, Ravel and Salzedo.

The master class, which has a $20 per student participation fee, will provide participants a nurturing format to perform a work in progress for the two teachers and receive constructive feedback that can be tried out immediately on the audience present. Since the concert will present several pieces that use extended techniques, sound effects and percussion, Quintessential Harp will demonstrate some of these. Using a score, students will learn to recognize and interpret new techniques.
