New Orleans native, author and actor Wendell Pierce has won a Christopher Award for his book, “The Wind in the Reeds.”
“The book is about the family values and community atmosphere in which Pierce was raised in Pontchartrain Park, and his efforts to rebuild that community after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina,” a news release said.
Pierce is also a Tony Award-winning producer. He portrays Clarence Thomas in the HBO film, “Confirmation,” which premiered this weekend; is Teddy on CBS’s “The Odd Couple,” and a character in “Suits” on USA.
Created in 1949, The Christopher Awards are presented to authors and illustrators as well as writers, producers and directors whose work “affirms the highest values of the human spirit,” the release said.
