Magic for Beginning Magicians will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, at the Port Allen Community Center, 749 N. Jefferson Ave. in Port Allen, and at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, at Addis Community Center, 7520 La. 1 South in Addis.

In each workshop, budding magicians will learn and practice a variety of beginner-level tricks, as well as make simple trick props. Open to students 5 years old and older. Limit is 50 students.

Chris C. Miller is a Louisiana magician who specializes in children’s magic shows. His performances consist of 30-40 tricks and illusions, and while geared toward children, are entertaining for audiences of all ages. Mill will perform at:

Ascension Parish Library

Create a masterpiece of your own with Books and Brushes: Painting at the Library, Tuesday, June 28, at Ascension Parish Library in Donaldsonville branch, 500 Mississippi St. in Donaldsonville. You don’t have to be Picasso to paint a picture you can enjoy for years to come. It’s easy, and we’ll show you how to use acrylics to paint a cypress tree and swamp scene. The library provides the brushes, paints and canvas, and all you’ll need to bring along is an apron.

Join the Ascension Parish Library as they celebrate the importance and fun of reading. Irma Blvd. in Gonzales, Herbie Thorpe, the creator of the Herbster Reader series, will present a program to delight both children and adults. He will emphasize the importance of books and reading by reading stories and talking about creating Herbie Bear and the Herbster Reader Series.
