Southeastern Louisiana University professor Norman German’s book “The Word on Words: The Play of Language” was translated into Chinese recently.

Zhai Xiangjun, noted for his translation of “Gone With the Wind,” translated the book, which defines and examines 1,500 words using essays about their origins and roots. It also uses exercises, puzzles and quizzes to help students preparing for aptitude or admissions tests, like the ACT, SAT or GRE.

“I was shocked the book would be published in China,” German said. “But then my agent explained that the Chinese are interested in English because it is the foremost language of the business world.”

“The Word on Words” was first published in 2011 and was noted as one of the Best of 2011 by Kirkus Reviews.
