The Rev. Donnie Wilkinson has been appointed to serve as senior pastor at Broadmoor United Methodist Church.
Wilkinson is replacing the Rev. Fred Wideman who retired after eight years at Broadmoor and 40 years in the ministry.
Wilkinson, who was appointed July 1, will preach his first sermon at 9 a.m. Sunday, July 17, in the sanctuary.
He is a graduate of Louisiana Tech and Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University and comes to Baton Rouge from First United Methodist Church in Alexandria.
Under Wilkinson’s leadership the congregation at FUMC increased by 40 percent and accomplished a $2.7 million capital campaign to update and modernize its campus. Wilkinson has 14 years of pastoral and administrative leadership experience in a variety of congregational settings throughout the Louisiana Conference.
“It is an honor to take up the mantle of leadership at Broadmoor United Methodist Church from Rev. Fred Wideman after his many years of ministry excellence,” Rev. Wilkinson said. “I’m excited and humbled by Bishop Harvey’s invitation to return to Baton Rouge and to the church that played a key role in discerning my call to ministry. My family and I look forward to joining in with the many wonderful things God is already doing at Broadmoor and in the Baton Rouge community.”
Wilkinson and his wife, April, have been married for 15 years and are the parents of Mollybeth, 12, and John Harper, 8.
