La. pastors chosen for leadership course

Four Louisiana pastors were selected from the Louisiana Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church to receive sponsorships to participate in an advanced, five-year leadership training course for young clergy.

The United Methodist Foundation of Louisiana will sponsor these pastors in the Advancing Pastoral Leadership program at a cost of $2000 per year plus travel expenses.

The recipients are the Revs. Stephen Fife, of Asbury United Methodist Church, Lafayette; Juan Huertas, of St. John’s United Methodist Church, Baton Rouge; Katie McKay Simpson, of First United Methodist Church, Baton Rouge; and Leslie Stephens, of Faith Crossing United Methodist Church, Walker.

Advancing Pastoral Leadership is a ministry of the Texas Annual Conference open to clergy who have 30 years of potential remaining service to the church. The ministry is designed to develop capacity for leadership with sessions covering such topics as engaging staff and congregation in strategic planning; preaching content and style and budgets and basic church accounting.
