Sherry Kairdolf Beard spent her preschool years at Broadmoor Presbyterian Preschool. Now the 39-year-old is in charge of it.
Beard is the first director of the 56-year-old preschool to have attended it. Prior to being named director, Beard taught 4-year-olds at the school for 10 years.
The school starts on Aug. 10, with orientation on Aug. 6.
Beard earned a degree from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1998, after attending St. Michael High School. She has worked with autistic and dyslexic children and taught fourth grade for six years before joining the preschool staff. She and her husband, Darryl Beard, have a 19-month-old son, Elliott.
She succeeds Kathy Balhoff, who retired after 12 years as director and a total of 23 years at the preschool.
“We have a waiting list now, but cancellations do happen, and anyone is welcome to call,” she said. “We will start another registration in January 2016.”
She added that there are 122 total students, including 65 in preschool and 57 in Mother’s Morning Out, ranging in age from 6 months to 5 years old, and 19 teachers.
“Broadmoor Presbyterian preschool has a family atmosphere,” Beard said. Her mother, Paula Kairdolf, retired from the school and her aunt Tina Coston works there. “Personally, I come from a large family that gets together often to eat and play games and to go camping together. All of my life, I have enjoyed family and working with children.”
