Dr. Joan Borysenko, author, scientist and mind/body expert, is giving a free program for cancer survivors Friday, March 9, at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and is holding a retreat Friday through Sunday, March 9-11, at The Red Shoes.
The program at Mary Bird Perkins, 4950 Essen Lane, is on "Cancer as a Healing Journey: Project HOPE" and runs from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday.
An expert on stress, health and healing, Borysenko will offer practical tools to help turn crisis into opportunity, to build resilience to perk up the immune system and mood.
Beginning Friday, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and continuing Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Borysenko will offer a spiritual retreat, "An Evolutionary Narrative: Creating Authentic Power through Story." The sessions will be held at The Red Shoes, 2302 Government St.
The retreat is aimed at creating a life narrative of meaning and purpose that encourages your inner light to shine. Learn effective techniques to rewire negative brain circuits and discover authentic character strengths that lead to increased well-being and resilience.
The cost of the retreat is $25 for Friday and $165 for all three days.
