A salon concert to help offset the costs for the Blackwater United Methodist Church Choir to travel to New York City’s Lincoln Center-Carnegie Hall in 2015 and help with their music ministry will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Russell Westfall in Central.

This trip will be the second time the choir has been invited to perform “The Requiem” in this venue. For information and tickets, call Russ Westfall at (225) 223-3081.

The Nov. 1 vocal and piano concert will feature soprano Jamie Leonard-Brubaker and pianist Evan Roider. They will present a variety of music, including classical, Broadway and Gershwin.

Leonard-Brubaker is an LSU graduate, with degrees in both vocal performance and vocal music education.

She has been a featured soloist with the Louisiana Sinfonietta and has performed with the Baton Rouge Symphony Chorus on numerous occasions.

Her opera credits include “Susannah,” “Willie Stark,” “The Mikado,” “La Nozze di Figaro,” “Pirates of Penzance” and “La Fille du Regiment.” She regularly performs with Theatre Baton Rouge, Ascension Community and Independence Park Theatre.

In February, Leonard-Brubaker will appear in the ensemble of a concert performance of the musical “Parade” that will be staged in the Lincoln Center under the musical direction of composer Jason Robert Brown. Currently, she serves as the choir director at Blackwater United Methodist Church and as a high school choir and fine arts teacher at Belaire High School.

Roider maintains an active schedule as a soloist and collaborative artist, working with some of today’s most successful young musicians. His performances span an array of music, from classical to contemporary, as well as the American songbook.

In the 2013-2014 season, he performed in China, England, Ireland and Italy, as well as California, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Louisiana.

In China, he premiered a new arrangement of Mahler’s “Das Lied von der Erde” with Metropolitan Opera soprano and Cardiff Singer of the World Yang Guang. In Italy, he music directed “Broadway in Ravello,” a concert which was broadcast on Italian National Television.

At Grand Performances Los Angeles, he performed in a concert celebrating conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein.

As a music director and conductor, his credits include “Into the Woods,” “Swingin’ on a Star,” “Summer of ’42” and “Company.”

In 2012, Roider was an associate music director at the Tony Award-winning Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center. evanroider.com.
