The Monstrance and the Blessed Sacrament arrive at the boat launch after a Holy Mass for the Feast of the Assumption at St. Leo's Church, part of the annual Fête-Dieu du Teche, set for Tuesday, Aug. 15.

LEONVILLE — Fȇte-Dieu du Teche, the Eucharistic boat procession down Bayou Teche, will take place on the Feast of the Assumption, Tuesday, Aug. 15.

Mass will first be celebrated in French at 8 a.m. at St. Leo the Great in Leonville. Diocese of Lafayette Bishop Douglas Deshotel will preside and give the homily.

At the conclusion of Mass, a procession will go from the church with the Blessed Sacrament to the boat landing.

At 9:30 a.m., 50 boats will disembark in procession and make their way down Bayou Teche, retracing part of the actual journey of Acadians toward St. Martinville. The boat procession will stop at each church along the way for recitation of the rosary and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Confessions will be heard at each of the stops.

The schedule is:

  • 10:20 a.m. to 11:05 a.m., Arnaudville
  • 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Cecilia
  • 1:35 p.m. to 2:20 p.m., Breaux Bridge
  • 3:15 p.m. to 4 p.m., Parks

The procession will arrive in St. Martinville about 4:45 p.m. and disembark behind Notre Dame de Perpetuel Secours and enter the church for Benediction.

The procession will continue on foot to St. Martin de Tours for 5:15 p.m. Benediction and then down Main Street to Mater Dolorosa Chapel for Solemn Vespers and final Benediction at 6 p.m.
