The River Community Church in Prairieville will exhibit paintings from the “Birds of a Feather” Show held recently at VanGuard Gallery in Stephen Wilson Stained Glass studio in Baton Rouge.
The exhibit will be open at the church, 36367 Old Perkins Road, Jan. 18 through Feb. 5. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon Sundays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.
The artworks were donated by area artists in support of Bethany Centre Primary School in Uganda, according to a news release.
School founder and director Peter Kiwanuka is a native Ugandan who attended LSU in 2001 and lived in Baton Rouge for two years.
He returned to Uganda and felt a burden to help the orphans and other disadvantaged people living in or near the village of Jjungo, in Southern Uganda.
Community members there are very supportive, offering donations of materials, food and labor in their efforts.
Through benefit art exhibitions such as this one, the community here is helping fill the gap financially and making it possible for the children to attend school, providing a uniform, a meal and recreation along with their education.
All proceeds from the sale of this art will go to support the school in Uganda.
