New Salem Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its 115th church anniversary at its 11 a.m. services Sunday.
The Rev. Manley Metoyer, assistant pastor of Greater Mount Gideon Baptist Church, will be the guest speaker for the grand occasion.
The church has been in the same location at 318 Eddie Robinson Jr. Drive for all of its 115 years.
In 1901, a group of born-again believers came together and organized to build a dwelling place for the spirit of God, according Millie J. Green, wife of Pastor Willie J. Green Jr.
Under the leadership of the Rev. A.L. Reese, the New Salem Missionary Baptist Church was incorporated on May 15, 1902.
Over the 115 years, there has only been six pastors of the church — Reese, the Rev. J.L. Lands, the Rev. Early Williams, the Rev. L.M. Warner, the Rev. Walter Smith and Green.
