The Rev. Larry Stockstill, pastor of Bethany World Prayer Center for 28 years, plans to turn leadership of the church over to his son Jonathan early next month.
While he will no longer be Bethany’s lead pastor, Larry Stockstill plans to continue a ministry of mentoring other pastors and planting new churches around the world, according to an announcement emailed by the church Thursday afternoon.
The church has scheduled a joint Bethany United service for 10:30 a.m. Oct. 2 at the north campus, 13885 Plank Road. That’s when Larry Stockstill will “pass the torch” to his son, church leaders said.
Jonathan Stockstill is the worship leader for Bethany and frontman for the Christian band Deluge.
He will be the third-generation Stockstill to serve as Bethany’s lead pastor. Larry Stockstill’s father, Roy, started what was then called Bethany Baptist Church in the family’s living room in 1963.
Larry Stockstill’s oldest son, Joel, will remain on the Bethany staff as one of the teaching pastors.
