A group of Baton Rouge churches wants local believers to get a feel for missions work in foreign countries.
Christ the King Christian Center will host a celebration of the world’s cultures with a day of diverse foods, music and art.
Scheduled for Saturday, July 9, the Cultures for Christ: Go Ye to All Nations event is aimed at Christians who want to support to the missions field or go to work as missionaries, said Marilyn Thornton, apostolic overseer of Heritage International Ministries, based in Baton Rouge.
“We have many who are called to be involved in missions, but they don’t understand what the experience will be like,” she said. “This will give them an opportunity to learn about their mission field.”
A collaboration of several Baton Rouge churches, the Cultures for Christ event will feature music from an array of performers, including the African Gospel Band and smooth jazz gospel group Terrell Griffin and Free.
Traditional African and South American food will be sold, Thornton said, and art and other goods from various world cultures will be available for sale.
The free event is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Christ the King Christian Center at 4407 N. Sherwood Forest Boulevard.
