Serves 4. Here’s a recipe for grilled burgers from Laura’s Lean Beef that uses cream cheese to help add moisture and richness to the lower-fat beef.
1 lb. 90% or 93% lean-ground beef
1 cup finely chopped fresh herbs, such as basil, parsley and thyme
6 tbls. fat-free cream cheese, softened
2 tsps. salt
1 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
1. Divide ground beef evenly to form 8 large, flat patties.
2. In a bowl, mix herbs with cream cheese. Spread the herbed cheese mixture to the edge of four of the patties. Top each patty with second patty and pinch edges to seal them closed.
3. Grill 4 minutes; turn and grill another 3 to 4 minutes.
(Add 2 to 3 minutues cook time per side for better done burgers).
Note: Serve on whole-grain buns with fresh, healthy sides like a mixed green salad, grilled zucchini slices and frozen yogurt with fresh berries for dessert.
