What a Crock!: Going nuts over the Super Bowl _lowres

Ever wonder how many nuts are consumed during the Super Bowl?

Some estimates say that while about 30 million pounds of snacks will be consumed on that particular Sunday, nearly 2.5 million of those pounds will be nuts.

There are techniques for making a party mix or nuts in the slow cooker. First, it doesn’t take long and, second, the drying out process is important. Leave at least an hour at the end of cooking time with the lid off and the cooker turned to High. Stir several times and you can feel the crispness set in.

This recipe uses Kix cereal in addition to the cashews. It’s something I also use in my party mix because of its ability to soak in the seasoning. It also is an ingredient that mixes well with the nuts, providing an unexpected flavor burst. It’s quick and easy, too. So, whether you are watching the big game or just having a few friends and family over, enjoy the tastes around you.
