Michael Mangham, chef and former co-owner of the Silver Spoon, is returning to the Baton Rouge scene with a new restaurant at the upcoming White Star Market on Government Street.
Mangham, who sold the Silver Spoon in 2008, has dubbed his new venture “Another Silver Spoon,” and his menu will reflect many of the dishes that appeared on the namesake’s menu, according to a White Star news release.
Mangham will feature salads and sandwiches, with homemade ingredients, many from local farms. In addition to lunch and dinner, the restaurant will serve a limited breakfast menu.
“Having Michael at White Star is particularly special,” owner Clark Gaines said, “because he is reinterpreting a new version of a concept that was so popular with Baton Rouge diners for many, many years .... Michael emailed me with a message that simply said ‘the spoon is back’. I knew exactly what he meant.”
Mangham has spent the last several years as a private chef and food industry consultant. He will be running “Another Silver Spoon” full time when it opens.
“I’m excited to be back in Baton Rouge and serving the things I love to cook to all of my loyal customers and friends.” Mangham said. “I’m also looking forward to introducing some great breakfast items as well.”
White Star Market, a hall that will have nearly a dozen different food and drink booths, will be located in the new the Square 46 mixed-use development on Government Street, slated to begin construction later this spring, with an anticipated opening date in 9 to 10 months, according to Gaines.
Other restaurants planned at the White Star Market include:
• Robear Ln., a restaurant and retail store run by Baton Rouge native Jesse Romero of ‘MasterChef’ fame that will feature Louisiana-inspired dishes, particularly meats and dishes popular in the Acadiana area.
• A second location of Jolie Pearl Oyster Bar, featuring a selection of signature oysters, fried oyster and fried shrimp po-boys and some new dishes.
• Gov’t Taco run by a “Food Network Star” finalist Jay Ducote, featuring a wide range of creative tacos.
