Strawberries & Cream (Romanoff style)

Serves 6. Recipe is by Corinne Cook, who described the dish as “a showy and simple-to-make dessert.”

1 qt. fresh strawberries

½ cup Grand Marnier or cointreau (use a little less if desired)

½ cup fresh orange juice

½ pt. whipping cream

2 to 4 tbls. confectioners’ sugar

½ tsp. vanilla extract

1. Wash and remove tops from berries and pat dry with paper towel. Slice berries in half and place in mixing bowl. Add liqueur and orange juice. Cover and refrigerate for an hour or two, turning occasionally.

2. Whip cream and add sugar, according to how sweat the strawberries are, add the vanilla. Whip until soft peaks form.

3. Place berries in pretty stemmed glass or bowl and top with dollop of whipped cream.
