Baton Rouge native Jesse Romero of ‘MasterChef’ fame is the latest tenant to sign on in the upcoming White Star Market in Mid City.
Romero’s Robear Ln. will feature Louisiana-inspired dishes, particularly meats and dishes popular in the Acadiana area, according to a news release from White Star Market owner Clark Gaines. Robear Ln. is also expected to offer a retail store featuring homemade beef jerky and pickled vegetables.
“I’ve been waiting for the right opportunity to debut this unique concept, which up until now has just
been an idea in my head and scratches in my notebooks.” Romero said in the news release. “It is time to make my dream a reality, and I have a good feeling the city of Baton Rouge will love this deep South Louisiana inspired menu.”
White Star Market, a hall that will have nearly a dozen different food and drink booths, will be located in the new the Square 46 mixed-use development on Government Street, slated to begin construction later this spring, with an anticipated opening date in 9 to 10 months, according to Gaines.
Romero competed in the Gordon Ramsay’s show “MasterChef” in the 2015 season.
Other restaurants planned at the White Star Market include:
• A second location of Jolie Pearl Oyster Bar, featuring a selection of signature oysters, fried oyster and fried shrimp po-boys and some new dishes.
• Gov’t Taco run by a “Food Network Star” finalist Jay Ducote, featuring a wide range of creative tacos.
