Hot Honey in the City

Serves 1. Recipe is by Tyler Chauvin, cocktails program director at Trèo in New Orleans.

2 slices jalapeño

1 sprig mint

1 ounce pepper jelly syrup (see recipe)

1 ounce Oryza Gin

1 ounce Cathead Honeysuckle Vodka

1/2 ounce fresh orange juice

1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice

Jalapeño slice, for garnish

1. Muddle the jalapeño and the mint with the syrup.

2. Add the gin, vodka, and lemon and orange juices. Shake vigorously. Strain through a mesh sieve. Garnish with a thin slice of jalapeño.

Pepper Jelly Syrup

Makes 8 ounces.

8 ounces water

4 full bar spoons of pepper jelly

3 full bar spoons of brown sugar

4 orange rinds

1/4 jalapeño pepper

Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring, until sugar has dissolved. Allow to cool.
