I came from the Red Stick Farmers Market with fresh green beans. I steamed some with new potatoes and marinated the rest using the following recipe.

The recipe came from “Lights Over Carolina” cookbook by The Junior League of Anderson County in South Carolina. This sidebar next to the recipe caught my eye and brought back summer memories: “MaMa picked a ‘mess’ of beans today for supper. A ‘mess’ refers to a large bunch, usually more than enough to feed six to eight people. If it was a big mess, then most of it would probably be canned for later use.”
