Serves 8 to 12 as an appetizer. Recipe is from Flo Ulmer, who credits her neighbor Cammie Norwood with creating it. “This is one of my favorite neighborhood recipes,” Ulmer says. “I remember it always, not only because it tastes marvelous but because Cammie served it at a dinner that was our first outing 14 years ago after the birth of our daughter.”

1 cup onions, diced

1 cup mayonnaise

1 cup Jarlsberg or Swiss cheese, shredded

1. Combine ingredients in a medium saucepan, and stir over medium heat until cheese is melted.

2. Pour mixture into an 8x8-inch oven-safe baking dish or 9-inch round pie pan and bake in a preheated 350-degree oven for about 30 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and golden on top.

Serve with crackers or crusty bread rounds.
