“Delicious Dump Cakes: 50 Super Simple Desserts to Make in 15 Minutes or Less” by Roxanne Wyss and Kathy Moore, St. Martin’s Griffin, $19.99,

118 pages, paperback; eBook, $9.99

“Delicious Dump Cakes” is a good little cookbook for a novice baker or the busy home cook who wants simple-to-make desserts.

It features 50 easy recipes for cakes and desserts, most of which take only minutes to put together. That’s because the recipes begin with a cake, muffin or cookie mix to which you add such items as canned or fresh fruit, a pudding mix or evaporated milk.

The authors open their cookbook with “Dump Cake Basics,” giving tips for best results. Next come recipes for making your own yellow, white and chocolate cake mixes.

There are recipes for classic dump cakes like Rocky Road and Triple Berry Cobbler; chocolate dump cakes, including Mississippi Mud; fruit-flavored dump cakes; and “caramel and ooey-gooey treats” like peanut butter cup dump cake and dulce de leche dump cake.

The final chapter features specialty cakes, including several made in the slow cooker.

Wyss and Moore say dump cakes are best served the day they are made. With blueberries in season, consider making their recipe for Lemon- Blueberry Dump Cake tonight.
