Cane Land Distilling Co. will auction off a 53-gallon single barrel of its Original Mississippi Floated Whisky, while Waitr has launched a Thanksgiving food drive through its phone app.
Both efforts will benefit the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.
All bottling for the online auction winner will be handled through Cane Land, and the proceeds from the fundraiser will go directly to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank to support their mission of feeding those in need across 11 parishes.
The whisky is valued at more than $15,000. Bidding will run until Thursday, Nov. 2. Bids can be made online at https://one.bidpal.net/barrelforthebank/welcome.
Meanwhile, patrons using the on-demand restaurant platform Waitr's app to order food currently have the option to help feed a family in their own community with a donation.
Called “Share Thanksgiving,” the food drive allows Waitr users to click on the designated “Donate a Meal” button after they order. Should they choose to do so, they will then be prompted to select a dollar amount ranging from $2 to $10. Waitr and its participating restaurant partners will also match a portion of their customers’ donations, a news release says.
Using these donations, Waitr will deliver free hot meals prepared by local restaurants to needy families during Thanksgiving week.
"Share Thanksgiving" is being run across the Southeast, as Waitr has more than 2,500 restaurant partners and a presence in more than 100 cities.
