A barbecue cook-off, with dinners going for $10, will be part of the Cooking in Central festival March 23-24.

Cooking In Central will hold its Cooking for the Kids event March 23-24.

The festival will be held at Amazing Place, 10305 Blackwater Road, Central. All proceeds go to support local private and public schools.

The event begins at 5 p.m. March 23 with a crawfish boil. Tickets are $15. At 6 p.m., the Chase Tyler Band will perform. 

The gates open again at 10 a.m. March 24, and starting at 11 a.m., the barbecue cook-off food will be served. Tickets are $10.

There will be games for youngsters, including pony rides, a catch-the-pig contest and a foam machine. Silent and live auctions follow, along with live entertainment.

For the energetic early risers, join the Apron Run 5K on March 24. The fun run starts at 8:30 a.m., with the 5K at 9 a.m. Register at apronrun.itsyourrace.com. Tickets are $25 and includes a lunch ticket for the barbecue cook-off.
