WHAT: Health fair hosted by the Scotlandville Interfaith Community

DETAILS: Faith Walk starts at 8 a.m. followed by health fair with more than 20 exhibitors. The Baton Rouge Fire Department also will have its Safety House there. In addition to Immaculate Conception, churches sponsoring the event are Allen Chapel AME, Camphor Memorial Methodist Church and Greater Mount Carmel Baptist Church.
Screenings for kids
WHAT: Free vision and speech tests for kids by the Pediatric Rehabilitation Center at Baton Rouge General
WHEN: 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12

DETAILS: According to the American Speech Language Hearing Association, 64 percent of parents were not able to recognize the early warning signs of a speech-language or feeding disorders, and 57 percent of parents were unaware that without early detection, treatments take longer and cost more. The free screenings will help parents identify concerns that may lead to further assessment. In addition to the free screenings, activities will include car seat safety demonstrations, safe fittings for shoes and backpacks and more.
