Time to dig in the dirt, and two plants sales on Saturday, April 11, will help you get your garden growing.

Both the Baton Rouge Botanic Garden Plant Sale and the East Baton Rouge Master Gardeners’ Spring Plant Sale are on tap, offering everything from bright blanketflowers to Louisiana irises, herbs and garden art.

Botanic Garden Plant Sale

Runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Botanic Garden, 7950 Independence Blvd. The sale area is in the Crape Myrtle Garden, to the rear of the parking lot.

Many of the plants on sale have been grown by members of groups sponsoring the various gardens, including roses, irises and daylilies. Local and regional vendors also offer plants they have grown. Throughout the morning, members of the participating plant societies will be available to discuss the basics of selecting, growing and maintaining the plants they will be selling. Proceeds go to development of the Botanic Garden.

East Baton Rouge Master Gardeners’ Spring Plant Sale

Open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens at Burden, Essen Lane at I-10.

More than 7,000 plants and 250 varieties will be for sale. You can check them out at mgplantsale.com.

Experts will offer assistance in plant selection. There will also be a plant health clinic and children’s gardening activities. Bring your wagon, but no pets please.
