The 13th annual Baton Rouge Spring Garden Show is set for Saturday and Sunday, March 14-15, at LSU’s John M. Parker Coliseum on Highland Road in Baton Rouge.
The show will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days and include local nurseries and other vendors selling plants and garden wares, including tools, pots, ornaments and landscaping materials. There also will be a plant health clinic and children’s activities.
In addition, the weekend also brings the ninth annual Chili Cook-off for Children to the front of the coliseum. Hours for the cook-off are 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.
Also on-site will be a Fish and Koi Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, and an Open Car Show from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The chili cook-off is sponsored by Knights of Columbus, Audubon Kiwanis, Catholic Radio 1380AM and 4theKids. All proceeds will benefit Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital, which is the second-largest children’s hospital in Louisiana, touching the lives of 86,000 children last year alone. OLOL Children’s Hospital treats all children in need, regardless of ability to pay.
Sixty-five contestants, including teams from the local region, are expected to compete over the two days in competitions for red chili, chili verde and salsa. A panel of local celebrities will judge. Attendees also will be able to taste the contestants’ chili and vote on the best for the local “People’s Choice Chili” Award.
Also at the event will be booths with a variety of food and drinks.
