Blooms, some almost the size of a dinner plate, will be showing their colors at the Red Stick Hibiscus Association’s annual show and sale Sunday, May 3.
The free event, which runs from 1-5 p.m., will be held at the 4-H Mini Farm Building, adjacent to the John Parker Coliseum on the LSU campus.
The theme of this year’s show is “Patriotism: Honoring the Red, White and Blue,” and is dedicated to the late Dr. Dan Fontenot, a military veteran and one of the group’s biggest supporters. All plants for this sale are hybridized and grown by Dupont Nursery in Plaquemine.
Flowers from growers throughout the South will be on display.
The show is one of many projects for this nonprofit group, which is a part of the American Hibiscus Society, and proceeds go for, among other things, scholarships for Louisiana students who are planning a career in horticulture at any state school.
