Two Baton Rouge-area groups will produce “The Fine Art of Dining,” a unique event combining flowers, art and table settings.
Scheduled from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, and noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22, the event will be held at the Baton Rouge Garden Center, 7950 Independence Blvd., Baton Rouge. Tickets are $5, cash or check, at the door.
Junior and senior art students from the LSU Lab School will join with members of the Baton Rouge Garden Club for the event, which funds a program offering a scholarship to college students in landscape architecture, urban forestry or horticulture.
This will be the sixth year the event will be a highlight of the February fine arts schedule. Garden club members have held an annual Tablescapes show for the last 22 years, with floral designs and place settings created to express a theme. For this year’s show, garden club designers will interpret paintings and art created by lab school students, instructed by Therese Knowles, who are members of the International Baccalaureate Program.
On display will be more than 20 exhibits, each with a functional or abstract table design. Those attending can vote for their favorite design and art.
