Love to look at exotic flowers? Then stop by the Baton Rouge Orchid Society’s Orchid Show & Sale, where more than 100 varieties of orchids in various shapes, sizes, colors and forms will be on display.
Unlike other flower shows, orchids are arranged in breathtaking tropical arrangements for judging of both flowers and displays by the American Orchid Society. So you’ll see which plants and displays win ribbons and awards, and who knows, you might be enticed to try growing a plant or two.
With 35,000 species and 150,000 hybrids in 880 genera, orchids can be big, little, short, tall, sweet smelling, stinky, beautiful or weird, truly offering something for everyone.
The show will also feature a “Kiddie Korner,” where youngsters will be introduced to the fun of growing orchids.
A potting demonstration will be held every two hours. Bring along one plant to be repotted, and an experienced member of the society will do it and provide a lesson along the way. All repotting supplies will be provided by the society.
Orchid Society members also will be on hand to answer questions, advise on purchases and offer other assistance. Several plants will be raffled, with winners selected at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
Vendors from across the Gulf Coast region will have a wide variety of orchid plants for sale.
