The Baton Rouge Orchid Society will feature a presentation by expert Manuel Aybar at its 7 p.m. meeting Wednesday, Feb. 21.

At the session, conducted at the Burden Center, 4560 Essen Lane, Aybar will recount his experiences at the 22nd World Orchid Conference held last November in Ecuador. 

Originally from the Dominican Republic, Aybar has been growing orchids for 26 years and is an expert on dendrobiums. He is an accredited judge for the American Orchid Society, chairman of the Dallas Judging Center and a member of the Greater North Texas Orchid Society.

The meeting is free and open to anyone interested in learning about orchid culture in our climate.

On Feb. 26, the Orchids for Seniors group will meet at 10 a.m. at Independence Community Park, 7500 Independence Blvd. The program will be a review of basic orchid culture for newcomers and experienced orchid hobbyists. The Green Growers group for new growers will meet at 7 p.m. March 14 at 425 Nelson Drive.
