King Julio Melara and Queen Lisa Lane reigned over the 30th annual Karnival Krewe de Louisiane Ball on Friday, Feb. 3, at the Raising Cane's River Center. 

The krewe's tableau celebrated with a theme of "30 Years and Still Having a Ball" and decorations of crystals and diamonds.

Board President Trent Bondy welcomed guests and announced Grand Marshals Richard and Susan Lipsey.

Ball Captain Kris Cangelosi hosted the tableau, presenting Duke Dr. Curtis Chastain and Duchess Ginger Dodd; Duke Brandon Munn and Duchess Lisa Clark; Duke Dr. Jonas Fontenot and Duchess Jennifer Burke; Duke Chad Sabadie and Duchess Lee Ann Lemoine; Duke Matt Moscona and Duchess Stephanie Possa; and Duke Ethan Bush and Duchess Katie Graves.

The tableau culminated with the presentation of the krewe’s 2017 debutante coterie and their escorts: Sloane L’Anne Allen, escorted by her father, John Allen; Caroline Marie Balhoff, escorted by her father, Daniel Balhoff; Madelyn Lee Bridges, escorted by her father, Scott Bridges; Chloe Ashbrooke Callerame, escorted by her father, Dr. Kevin Callerame; Gretchen Clair Falgoust, escorted by her father, Rodney Falgoust; Elisabeth Belle Fontenot, escorted by her father, Gregory Fontenot; Amelia-Ann Mildred Gillio, escorted by her father, Clifford Gillio; Victoria Elizabeth Hebert, escorted by her father, Todd Hebert; Sydney Larsen Kilpatrick, escorted by her father, Leeland Kilpatrick; Allyson Marie Lutgring, escorted by her father, Michael Lutgring; Amelia Marie Morgan, escorted by her brother, Kenneth Lee Morgan; and Alexa Elizabeth Thomas, escorted by her father, Dr. Blaine Thomas.

Highlighting the event was the unveiling of a $200,000 check, representing the krewe’s yearlong fundraising effort to benefit cancer patients in the community served by Mary Bird Perkins — Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center. Also on stage for the presentation were members of the Gerry Lane family of Gerry Lane Enterprises, presenting sponsor of the event.

A traditional Mardi Gras second-line followed along with a parade, featuring two full-sized floats along with seven minifloats, the Scotlandville High School marching band led by director Irone Roussell, Al Azar Grotto B Patrol, Honda Gold Wing Riders, iHeart Media, the Baton Rouge Fire Department, the Baton Rouge Dazzlers Dance Team, the McKinley High School JROTC led by Master Sgt. Scarlet Boyd, Guaranty Broadcasting, Red Stick Roller Derby, giant puppets and unicycling by Robert Sherman, and the East Baton Rouge Parish Motorcycle Deputies.

Dancing to the “Tip Tops” followed.
