The Krewe of Olympus celebrated its 29th annual carnival ball and pageant Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Cajundome Convention Center Ballroom.

Reigning over the festivities were King Ares XXIX A.J. Miller and Queen Athena XXIX Carolyn Cormier Stoute. 

The theme of the ball was "Athena’s Paradise,” a tropical Garden of Eden on the Island of Kokomo.

Entering first was last year’s royalty, King Ares XXVIII Harold Lee Domingue and Queen Athena XXVIII Sarah Ashtyn Simmons.

Ball Captain Troy Bergeron, who served as King Ares XXVII, then ordered the festivities to begin. Introduced were ball Chairwoman Bettie Thibodeaux; Vanessa Miller, wife of King Ares XXIX, and Murphy Stoute, husband of Queen Athena XXIX.

Miller, as the King of Kokomo, has been involved with Mardi Gras since age 3 when he was a page to the king of the children’s carnival. Later, he became King Oberon 43. He owns and operates Arthur Miller Painting Contractors.

The Queen of Kokomo has been in the krewe for over 20 years and has served as commodore, past treasurer and on the board and various committees. She is a past Scott Business Association queen, serves on the SBA Mardi Gras committee, past SBA president and board member. She is a also a member of Krewe of Atlantis and twice served as maid. She is also national vice president of the American Hibiscus Association and member of the Mike Bernard and Red Stick local hibiscus chapters. Forty-one years ago, she began her banking career working at Guaranty Bank, which is now Chase Bank.

The captain set a course through the Caribbean for a little island hopping.

Royal Duke Bryan Artigue represented the first island stop, Aruba, and Royal Maid Jennifer Artigue represented the bird of paradise flower.

Royal Duke Michael L. Thibodeaux marked the second island stop, Jamaica, and Royal Maid Cheryl Meche Thibodeaux represented the plumeria flower.

Royal Duke Percy Hebert represented the island stop of Bermuda, and Royal Maid Vickey Hebert represented the orchid.

The fourth island stop, The Bahamas, was represented by Royal Duke Danny LeBlanc Sr. and Royal Maid Cindy Leblanc represented the hibiscus flower.

Royal Jester was Anna Maria Hebert, daughter of Kim and Leah Hebert and granddaughter to Royal Duke Percy Hebert and Royal Maid Vickey Hebert.
