PLAQUEMINE — The Krewe of Cypress visited the Land of Kryptonite & Super Heroes for its 39th annual Mardi Gras Ball on Jan. 27 at the Carl F. Grant Civic Center.

Reigning over the festivities were King Klein Kirby and his daughter, Queen Madeline Klein Kirby. Also the daughter of Dana Brown Kirby, the queen carried the same scepter as did her grandmother, Karen Kirby, when she reigned as queen of Cypress and the Krewe of Iduna. The queen is also the granddaughter of Albert Kirby and the late Eula and Joseph F. Brown

The tableau opened with the arrival of ball Captain Dr. Caprice Anderson, portraying The Joker. She was followed by Troy Deshotel as Aqua Man and Landry Catherine Chopin as Poison Ivy. Chopin is the daughter of Wendy and Lamy Chopin III and the granddaughter of Louis Wolfort and the late Celia Powell and Lydia Chopin and the late Cecil Chopin. She was presented by Hedwig and Sammy Carville, Mercedes and Jimmy Doré, Faith and Steve Maddox and Carrie and Robby Geier.

Next came Cody Callegan as Captain America and Raleigh Elisabeth Patrick as Wonder Woman. Patrick is the daughter of Elisabeth Patrick and Darren Trahan and the granddaughter of Betty Jane Hebert and the late Glynn Hebert and Barbara Patrick and the late Jimmy Patrick. She was presented by her mother.

Kevin Edwards portrayed Thor while Catherine Elizabeth LeBlanc was Black Widow. LeBlanc is the daughter of Carolyn Delahaye Wolf and Steven LeBlanc, and the granddaughter of Janie and Jerry LeBlanc, who were her presenters, and Lynn Delahaye and the late Landry Delahaye.

Josh Morgan came next as Batman with Courtney Elizabeth LoBue, daughter of Tyla Wood LoBue and Shane LoBue, as Cat Woman. LoBue is the granddaughter of Anne and Guy LoBue Jr., and the late Betty and Hutchen "Buck" Wood.

Following the tableau and promenade, members and guests danced to the sounds of Dat Band.
