The Baton Rouge River Center Arena was the setting for the Mystic Krewe of Achilles 61st annual Carnival Ball on Jan. 21.

The krewe presented a parody of TV's "Saturday Night Live" as members of the all-male krewe and their wives took on the roles of some of SNL’s most popular characters during the tableau and, as is tradition, the identity of the members chosen for the tableau was kept a secret until show time.

The evening’s festivities commenced with the entrance march of the Men of Achilles, followed immediately by the return of the 2016 royalty and tableau.

Regal fanfare set the course for the presentation of King Achilles LXI Frank Fertitta and Queen Achilles LXI Robin Whittington Hebert, in attire designed by Dee Keller Designs.

Pages to the king were his grandsons Andrew Michael Fertitta, son of Andy and Dawn Fertitta, and James Robert Stephens, son of Robert and Amy Stephens.

Pages to the queen were her nephew James Ryan Whittington, son of Jennifer and Ryan Whittington, and family friend Corinne Elizabeth Boydstun, daughter of Lauren Boydstun.

Ball Captain Edmund J. Giering IV opened the evening with a rendition of Steve Martin’s “King Tut” skit before joining Masters of Ceremonies Pat Shingleton, as Steve Martin, and former Mayor Kip Holden, as James Brown, on stage.

Royalty, krewe and guests were then entertained by Ashley Frey as Mary Katherine Gallagher and Chuck Oliver as the Church Lady; Dawn Phillips and Greg Fautheree as the Spartan Cheerleaders; and Rebecca Boudreaux amd Ashley Lambert as Snow White and Cinderella in the “Real Housewives of Disney.”

Amy Westbrook and Ryan Whittington were the Coneheads, followed by Danna Hodges as Roseanne Roseannadanna (with a special rendition of SNL’s “Weekend Update) and Everett Bonner as Gene Frenkle from the famous “Cowbell” skit. Hab Karam and Tim Bowlin brought their rendition of the Blues Brothers' Jake and Elwood at the Roxy before a chance encounter with the Real Housewives of Disney brought the tableau to a hilarious close.

Mystic Krewe of Achilles officers for 2016-2017 are Otey L. White III, president; Kirk A. Patrick III, president-elect; James R. Purgerson Jr., treasurer; Ryan E. Whittington, vice president; John B. Davis, secretary; C. Conrad “Rad” Trascher IV, tableau director; Benjamin N. Graham, assistant tableau director; John Ross Buzzell, head committeeman, and Edmund J. Giering IV, past president.

Achilles' "Saturday Night Live" was directed by Keith Dixon and choreographed by Teresa Whitaker and Lauren Regner. Makeup for the tableau was provided by Sarah Bess Brown and hair styling by Russell White of Forum Salon.
