It was an emotional night at the Mystic Krewe of Louisianians 70th annual Mardi Gras Ball at the Washington Hilton Saturday night.

King Todd Graves introduced Cane III, the new mascot for Raising Cane's, an adorable yellow Lab puppy; his queen, Anna Reilly looked absolutely stunning and the "President's Own Marine Corps Band" paraded in to perform the national anthem. Let's just say words can't adequately describe the opening of this spectacular celebration.

The Washington Hilton ballroom was packed with several thousand partiers -- all dressed to the nines (except for some who didn't seem to understand what black-tie dress code meant).

The night's celebration included the promenade of the 39 princesses and coterie of Louisiana festival queens, whose towering crowns can give you headache just looking at them. They all represented our state with poise and grace. Smiling and cheering them on were proud moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings and friends.

A breakfast hosted by Queen Anna starts at midnight. Think we might all be hungry by then.
