Baton Rouge actor Joe Chrest and the rest of Netflix's "Stranger Things" cast have been nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series.

The 24th annual awards recognize "outstanding individual, cast and ensemble performances in film and television of 2017, as well as the honorees for outstanding action performances by film and television stunt ensembles."

Chrest, who plays Ted Wheeler on the series, grew up in West Virginia, but in the late 1980s came to LSU to get his master's degree in acting. The longtime character actor teaches a film acting class at LSU. 

The "Stranger Things" cast also stars Sean Astin, Millie Bobby Brown, Cara Buono, Catherine Curtin, Natalia Dyer, David Harbour, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Dacre Montgomery, Paul Reiser, Winona Ryder, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink and Finn Wolfhard.

The awards will be presented on Sunday, Jan. 21.
