Lafayette native Travis Ewing got three chairs to turn when he hit the stage on NBC’s “The Voice” Monday night, wowing judges with his own version of Destiny Child’s “Say My Name.”
The 23-year-old LSU graduate chose to work with producer Pharrell Williams over Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton, who tried to woo Ewing with a shout out to the Ragin Cajuns.
Only Adam Levine, of Maroon 5, didn’t try to get Ewing on his team, but admitted he was an idiot for not doing so. Ewing seemed to agree, causing the crowd to erupt with cheers and laughter. Ewing actually was agreeing to Levine’s comment that he wasn’t in the pocket on the song.
In the video introducing Ewing, he demonstrated his unique ability to play guitar, drums and beat box all at the same time.
So far, Tonya Boyd-Cannon, of New Orleans, has made Team Adam; Rob Taylor, of Donaldsonville, Team Christina; and Meghan Linsey, of Ponchatoula, also Team Pharrell.
“The Voice” airs again at 7 tonight.
