Baton Rouge dancer to appear on ‘Ellen’ on Thursday _lowres

University High School junior Payton Johnson of Baton Rouge will dance on the “Ellen” show at 3 p.m. Thursday.

“Ellen” airs locally on WVLA, Channel 33 (cable Channel 3).

The segment will feature the Top 30 young dancers in the country dancing alongside professionals to promote DancerPalooza, the “ultimate dance festival” set for this summer in Long Beach, Calif.

Johnson began rehearsals for the show last week in Los Angeles. Among those performing with the student dancers will be Twitch (also DJ on the show), Travis Wall, Nick Lazzarini, Ricky Ubeda and Melanie Moore.

Johnson is the current National Teen Best Dancer for The Dance Awards representing JUMP, NUVO and 24 Seven dance conventions. She dances at Jean Leigh Academy of Dance under the direction of Dianna Jones.
