The Lafayette Concert Band will honor America’s military heroes who died in defense of their country with its annual “Songs of Remembrance” concert at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Bayou Church, 2234 Kaliste Saloom Road, Lafayette.
The 70-member, all volunteer adult community band, under the direction of Gerald Guilbeaux, will perform marches and patriotic selections in this free concert.
This year’s performance will include Thomas Knox’s “American Pageant,” and as a special tribute to the World War II veterans of the Pacific, the band will perform “Victory At Sea” by Richard Rogers and Robert Russell Bennett.
“We try to include music that represents our past history — music from the Civil War era through the conflicts in the Middle East along with violin soloist Sarah Rinehart Walker paying homage to the millions of lives lost in World War II with hauntingly beautiful ‘Theme from Schindler’s List,’” Guilbeaux says.
The program also will include a special segment honoring veterans of the U.S. military.
Parking is available adjacent to The Bayou Church.
