World music and Louisiana bands will hit the stage in the 30th anniversary of Festival International.

The free event will take place April 20-24 in downtown Lafayette.

This year’s lineup includes reggae band Alpha Blondy & the Solar System, from the Ivory Coast, the prolific composer CharlElie Couture, from France, world beat musician Boogat, from Québec, and folk band A-WA, of Israel.

This year will feature performers from 25 regions and countries. Those who have been to Festival International will notice some newcomers and familiar faces.

Among the newcomers are the Grammy-nominated Cimarrón, of Colombia, and reggae and Afrobeat singer-songwriter Rocky Dawuni, of Ghana. Returning artists include folk rockers The Waifs, from Australia; pop quintent Chic Gamine, of Manitoba; the Burundi Drummers, of Burundi; and DéDé St. Prix, of Martinique.

Louisiana performers include blues guitarist Sonny Landreth; zydeco bands Chubby Carrier & the Bayou Swamp Band and Nathan & the Zydeco Cha-Chas; the seven-piece Sweet Crude; Cajun band Bonsoir, Catin; the funky Brass Mimosa; and the countrified The Viatones.
